FAR Terms of Use
Version 13 August 2026
FAR Terms of Use
Last updated: 13 August 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These terms are an agreement between you and Marcus Burnett, trading as MRB Creative ("we", "us"), of the United Kingdom, and they govern your use of the FAR (Fan Assistant Referee) mobile app and any related FAR services we provide (together, "FAR").
By creating an account or using FAR (including browsing as a guest) you agree to these terms, our Community Guidelines (which form part of these terms), and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use FAR.
You can contact us about anything in these terms at marcus@marcusburnett.com.
2. Who can use FAR
- You must be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to terms like these or for consenting to data processing, that higher age applies.
- If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to you using FAR.
- You must not use FAR if you have previously been banned from it.
3. Your account
- Guest accounts. You can browse and vote without signing up; we create an anonymous account for you automatically. If you later sign in with an email address, Google, or Apple, your anonymous account is upgraded in place and your history carries over.
- One person, one account. You may not create or operate more than one account, and you may not use multiple accounts, shared accounts, or automated accounts to vote more than once on a decision or otherwise distort FAR's statistics.
- Registration details must be accurate, and it's your responsibility to keep them up to date and to keep your sign-in method secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has access to it.
- Posting rights. Creating decisions and posting comments requires a verified email address. Voting and browsing do not.
4. What FAR is (and is not)
FAR is a platform for fan opinion. Fans log refereeing and VAR decisions during matches, everyone votes agree or disagree, and when the official outcome is recorded each vote is graded against it.
- Content on FAR is created by fans. Decisions, votes, comments, and photographs are the views and contributions of the users who post them, not statements by us. A decision logged on FAR is a claim by a fan that an incident happened and an invitation to vote on it. It is not an official record.
- Statistics are vote aggregates. "Officials agree" percentages, fan percentages, and all other FAR statistics are computed from user votes and user-recorded outcomes. They are for entertainment. They are not official match data, and they must not be relied on for any consequential purpose, including betting or gambling, for which FAR provides no advice and no data.
- Fixtures, scores, and crests are supplied by football-data.org and displayed for information. They may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong, and we make no promise about their accuracy.
- No affiliation. FAR is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any league, competition, club, player, match official, or governing or officiating body (including, without limitation, the Premier League, EFL, UEFA, FIFA, or PGMOL). Club names, competition names, and crests are the trademarks and property of their respective owners and are used solely to identify the matches and teams fans are discussing.
5. Your content
"Your content" means everything you post to FAR: decisions you log, votes, comments and replies, likes, reports, and photographs you attach.
- You own it. Posting on FAR does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
- You give us a licence. So that FAR can work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example, formatting, thumbnails, and cropping), publish, and display your content within FAR and any related FAR services; to let other users see and interact with it there; and to use reasonable excerpts of it to promote FAR (for example, showing a real decision and its vote split in marketing material, without your name unless you agree). This licence lasts as long as your content is on FAR. It ends when you delete the content or your account, except that (a) anonymised contributions retained under our Privacy Policy remain covered, and (b) copies may persist for a short time in backups.
- Your promises about your content. Every time you post, you confirm that:
- 1. the content is yours. In particular, any photograph is one you took yourself, not an image taken from a broadcast, stream, website, or another person;
- 2. it does not infringe anyone else's rights, including copyright and privacy rights;
- 3. where it makes claims about real events or real people, it is your honest opinion or an accurate description of something you witnessed, clearly presented as a fan's view;
- 4. it complies with these terms, the Community Guidelines, and the law.
- We don't have to publish it. We may screen, hide, decline, or remove content as described in section 7, and content (particularly photographs) may be held back until screening completes.
- Deleting content. You can delete your own decisions and comments in the app at any time. Votes already graded remain in aggregate statistics.
- Feedback. If you send us suggestions about FAR, we may use them without obligation to you.
6. The rules
The full rules are in the Community Guidelines, which form part of these terms. In short, you must not:
- post content that is abusive, hateful, threatening, or harassing, or that discriminates against any person or group;
- present accusations about identifiable real people (including match officials) as fact. Criticise the decision as strongly as you like; do not assert that a named official is corrupt, biased, or cheating;
- post anyone's personal information, or impersonate any person or organisation;
- upload photographs you did not take yourself, including screenshots or photos of television broadcasts or streams;
- post sexual, violent, or otherwise shocking content, or anything that sexualises or endangers children;
- log decisions you know to be false, spam matches with duplicate or joke decisions, or otherwise pollute the record fans are building;
- manipulate votes or statistics, including through multiple accounts, coordination, or automation;
- advertise, promote services, or post links for commercial gain;
- access FAR by automated means (bots, scrapers) or interfere with its operation, security, or other users' use of it;
- use FAR for anything unlawful.
7. Moderation, enforcement, and appeals
- Automated screening. Comments are screened automatically for abusive language; photographs are screened automatically for football relevance and explicit content, and stay hidden until they pass. Failed photographs are deleted.
- Reports. Any user can report a decision they believe is wrong or content they believe breaks the rules, using the report option in the app or by emailing marcus@marcusburnett.com. We review reports and complaints without undue delay and take the action we judge appropriate.
- Enforcement. If content or an account breaks these terms, we may remove or hide content, restrict features, or suspend or permanently ban the account. For serious breaches (threats, hatred, illegal content, child-safety issues, vote fraud) we may ban immediately and without warning. We may preserve and disclose content where the law requires it.
- Appeals. If we've removed your content or restricted your account and you think we got it wrong, email marcus@marcusburnett.com within 30 days. A human will review the action and reply with the outcome.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete account) or by emailing us from your account's email address. Your profile data and photographs are deleted; your decisions, votes, and comments remain as an anonymised part of each match's record, as described in the Privacy Policy. Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account.
9. Our content
FAR itself (the app, its design, code, wordmark, logo, and the statistics and displays we generate) belongs to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on your own devices for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from FAR except where the law allows it regardless of this term.
10. Advertising
FAR is free and funded by advertising, including banner and interstitial ads served by Google AdMob. Ads are third-party content: an ad on FAR is not our endorsement of the product advertised, and your dealings with advertisers are between you and them. Consent and tracking choices for personalised ads are described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Availability and changes to FAR
- FAR is provided free of charge, and we do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. Live data in particular may lag or fail.
- We may change FAR over time, adding or withdrawing features, competitions, or leagues, and we may suspend or discontinue it. If we discontinue FAR entirely or make a change that seriously disadvantages you, we will give reasonable notice in the app where we can.
12. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of your country.
- If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or our failure to use reasonable care and skill.
- We are not responsible for: content posted by other users (though we act on it as described in section 7); the accuracy of third-party match data; loss caused by events outside our reasonable control; or any business losses. FAR is for private, non-commercial use.
- Because FAR is free, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to £100.
- Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
13. Your responsibility to us
You are responsible for your content and your use of FAR. If your deliberate or seriously careless breach of these terms causes us loss (for example, a legal claim against us arising from content you posted in breach of section 5) you are responsible for that loss to the extent the law allows.
14. If you downloaded FAR from Apple's App Store
These additional terms apply, as required by Apple:
- This agreement is between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"), and Apple is not responsible for FAR or its content.
- Your licence to use FAR is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store's usage rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for FAR. If FAR fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund any purchase price (FAR is free, so no refund will be due); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for FAR.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to FAR, including product liability claims, consumer-protection claims, or claims that FAR infringes intellectual-property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded FAR from Google Play, nothing in these terms limits the effect of Google Play's own terms of service, which also apply to the download.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect new features or changes in the law. For significant changes we will give you notice in the app before they take effect, and the "Last updated" date above will always tell you when the terms last changed. If you keep using FAR after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply to you; if you do not agree with a change, stop using FAR and delete your account.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in, and you may also bring proceedings in your local courts where the law gives you that right (for UK residents: Scotland or Northern Ireland; for EU residents: your member state).
17. General
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
- If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to a successor of the business; your rights under them are personal to you and are not transferable.
- These terms, the Community Guidelines, and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about FAR. Nothing in them limits any rights you have under law that cannot be limited by agreement.
